Cordray Farms Store opens at 8 am on August 15th!

Hello, Friends!
As deer season opens, we have the meatcase stocked with all natural, locally grown Cordray Farms steaks, burger, summer sausage, jerky, and snack sticks! We also have Cordray Brothers, mild, and bratwurst pork sausage for sale.  Come see us!
Sunday hours are a rarity! Usually, we are open 9 am to 10 pm Monday - Saturday. We open just on Sunday nights from 6 pm to 10 pm for deer check in. But tomorrow is an exception since it is the opening day of the 2010 deer season. Hope to see you tomorrow!

As we wait 2 more days...want to see what we did on our summer vacation?

Michael hates it when I call it that! Somehow being in the hayfield in the 100 degree heat doesn't feel like a vacation, but compared to being in the store 84 hours a week, 7 days a week, it is! So this will be recaps of Cordray Farms in the offseason!
We played in snow.

We played in mud.
We played with baby goats and...

frogs and...
always checked on cows by the light of the moon!
We worked some
and some more.
And best of all... the Lord blessed our son, Tristan, and his wife, Callie, with a new baby boy!

Alligators are coming.... Sept. 11th!

Opening Day: Sunday 9 am to 10 pm

Deer Season opens this year on Sunday. In the past, DNR has moved the opening to Saturday, but not this year.
So we will be open 9 am to 10 pm on August 15th. Then we'll go back to our usual Daylight Savings Time hours, Mon. - Sat. 9 am to 10 pm, Sundays open in the evening 6 pm to 10 pm.
When the time changes Nov. 7th, we'll close at 9 each night.

Making Sense of Velvet by T. Edwards Nickens

We usually have about 2 weeks during which the deer have velvet antlers. These living tissues need special care to preserve them. Kenneth can do antler mounts or shoulder mounts to preserve these unique trophies. Field and Stream magazine's April issue reports:
Antler velvet is made up of a hairlike network of blood vessels and nerves, and it gives big bucks a kind of sixth sense-kinesthesia- to help them judge the positioning of their antlers and thread them through the thickest tangles.  If the buck misjudges and damages the velvet, the antler can grow abnormally. And that's not always a bad thing for hunters.
If you take an early season buck with velvet antlers, be sure to bring it to Cordray's Taxidermy!

Fainting Goats Make Great Pets!

Most of you know that we raise fainting goats. NOT for food, but for very entertaining pets! However, since they often have twins or even triplets, I sometimes have to part with some of my babies. So, I have 4 wethered males - that's castrated for the unhip on goat language among you - and one female. They are sweet, gentle, quiet, and faint like rocks.  They are all about 2 and 1/2 months old. They are very social creatures, so I'd love to sell them at least 2 at a time.  They're $75 each. They really do make fun pets! Give me a call if you'd like to welcome them into your home! No goat eaters need apply :)

Stop by Stono Market for Cordray Farms Beef!

It is a little over a month until deer season begins and our retail Cordray Farms Store opens. Until then, stop by Stono Market on Johns Island to pick up our all natural locally grown Cordray Farms Beef. I just dropped off burger, steaks, and roasts for their freezer case. They're at 842 Main Road, Johns Island, SC 29455. Phone number: 843-559-999.

Want to know why the Cordray's Blog is so slack during summer? Too much sunshine, too much fun!
Michael's baling hay with hard working helpers. I'm spoiling the grandkids. Be sure to call and make an appointment for pick ups. If you get the answering machine, call back to talk to someone or you might just make a wasted trip out! Enjoy your family and your 4th of July!
